About the Attractions
KÖPRÜLÜ CANYON
- Visitors from resort towns like Antalya, Kemer, Alanya, Belek, and Side join the rafting adventure in Köprülü Canyon National Park near the village of Beşkonak in Manavgat, located 125 km from Antalya's center.
- Established in 1973, Köprülü Canyon National Park spans 366,140 hectares. Named after the Köprüçay River canyon between Beşkonak and Balasan, it is Turkey's largest canyon at 14 km long and 100 meters high, with nearly inaccessible walls.
- The Köprüçay River originates in the Taurus Mountains and flows through natural canyons, fed by underground waters, eventually reaching the Mediterranean Sea south of Serik. With a length of 183 km and strong currents year-round, it's perfect for rafting and water sports.
- The park is one of Turkey's most beautiful natural recreational areas, featuring the Mediterranean's largest natural cypress forest (400 hectares). Its diverse fauna includes 48 rare and endangered species, with 44 endemic to the park, 5 globally endangered, 4 nationally endangered, and 39 threatened in Europe.
- Wildlife includes mountain goats, black salamanders, Anatolian vultures, and white-headed vultures.
- Historical and archaeological sites in the park include castles, aqueducts, roads, and ancient bridges, like the famous ancient Roman Oluk Bridge connecting both sides of the canyon, serving as a gateway and landmark.
- West of the Köprüçay River, in the mountains, lie the ruins of the ancient city of Selge, founded in the 5th century BC. Remnants include an ancient theater, agora, cisterns, aqueducts, and temples of Zeus and Artemis.
RAFTING
- Rafting is one of the most accessible and safest extreme sports.
- It involves navigating a mountain river in an inflatable raft, overcoming water obstacles and rapids.
- Even beginners will feel a rush of excitement and a sense of accomplishment from managing the roaring river. All it takes is listening to the safety briefing and following the experienced instructor's commands on the water.
- Rafting routes in Turkey are generally 2nd or sometimes 3rd degree in difficulty, suitable for both beginners and advanced rafters. You'll spend about 2 hours on the water, alternating between active paddling and rest breaks on land.
- The best time for rafting is from June to September, with water temperatures remaining at 10-12°C even on the hottest days.
WHAT IS A BUGGY?
- A buggy is a small, lightweight vehicle with high maneuverability and stability. These two-seaters are perfect for off-road adventures.
- Popular in tourism for their ability to navigate tough terrains like sand, mud, and water obstacles, they are also safe and easy to drive. No driver's license is needed to operate a buggy, making it accessible to everyone.
- Interesting fact! "Buggy" translates to "beetle." The first buggies were made in the 1950s from old or discarded Volkswagen Beetles.
ZIPLINE
- Ziplining is a perfect activity for adventure and thrill-seekers. It's an upgraded version of the old rope swing, with participants gliding down a steel cable stretched over a gorge, using a special harness system. The speed depends on the cable's length and the person's weight.
- Ziplining in Köprülü Canyon is completely safe, supervised by experienced instructors who will guide you through the process and safety measures.
- The adrenaline rush and excitement from ziplining in Köprülü Canyon will leave a lasting impression.
