About the Sights

KÖPRÜLÜ CANYON

  • Tourists staying in popular Turkish resort cities such as Antalya, Kemer, Alanya, Belek, and Side head to the Köprülü Canyon National Park near the village of Beşkonak in the Manavgat district, located 125 km from Antalya’s center, for rafting adventures.
  • Köprülü Canyon National Park was established in 1973 and covers an area of 366,140 hectares. The reserve gets its name from the Köprülü Canyon, formed by the Köprüçay River between the villages of Beşkonak and Balasan. It is considered the largest canyon in the Republic of Turkey, with a length of 14 km and heights reaching up to 100 meters. Some parts of the canyon walls are nearly impossible to climb.
  • The Köprüçay River originates in the Taurus Mountains, flows through natural canyons, and empties into the Mediterranean Sea south of Serik. With a length of 183 kilometers, it is a powerful water source suitable for rafting and other water sports, even in summer and winter.
  • Köprülü Canyon National Park is one of the most beautiful natural recreation areas in Turkey. It hosts the largest natural cypress forest in the Mediterranean region, covering 400 hectares, and boasts a rich fauna with 48 rare and endangered species. Of these, 44 species are endemic, 5 are globally endangered, 4 are nationally endangered, and 39 are threatened in Europe.
  • In the reserve, you can observe mountain goats and black salamanders, and admire the soaring Anatolian vulture and white-headed vulture.
  • The park also preserves numerous historical and archaeological monuments, such as castles, aqueducts, roads, and ancient bridges. One of the most famous is the ancient Roman Oluk Bridge, connecting the two sides of Köprülü Canyon, often considered the park’s gateway and signature landmark.
  • West of the Köprüçay River, in the mountains, lie the ruins of the ancient city of Selge, founded in the 5th century BC. Though only remnants remain, you can still see the ancient theater, agora, cisterns, aqueducts, and temples of Zeus and Artemis.

RAFTING

  • Rafting is considered one of the most accessible and safest extreme sports.
  • It involves navigating a mountain river on an inflatable raft, overcoming water obstacles and rapids.
  • Even beginners will experience an indescribable thrill, a surge of adrenaline, and a sense of accomplishment as they navigate the roaring, fast-flowing mountain river almost independently. The key to success is listening carefully to the safety briefing on land and following the instructions of your experienced guide in the water.
  • All rafting routes in Turkey have a difficulty level of 2, sometimes 3, suitable for both beginners and experienced rafters. The total time spent on the water is approximately 2 hours, alternating between active rowing and rest on the shore.
  • The best time for rafting is from June to September, as even on the hottest days, the water temperature in the river will be 10-12°C.

TAZI CANYON

  • Tazi Canyon is one of the most picturesque attractions in the Republic of Turkey, just beginning to gain popularity among tourists who prefer secluded relaxation away from the city hustle and those seeking extreme adventures.
  • Locals call this place the "Valley of Wisdom" – sitting on a massive boulder, you realize how vast our world is and how small we are within it. The gorge is part of the Köprülü National Park but became accessible to the public only in 2017.
  • From the observation deck, you can witness a breathtaking spectacle. Sheer cliffs, 200 to 400 meters high, framed by deciduous and coniferous forests; the winding Köprüçay River, which was once a full and turbulent mountain stream, and the vast valley in the background.
  • Tazi Canyon is a 30-minute drive from Köprülü Canyon, and it will be our first stop. The name "Canyon with a bridge" in Turkish refers to the famous Oluk Bridge, preserved since ancient times, over which Alexander the Great's army crossed during the Persian campaign.
  • The excursion is available to tourists from all regions of Antalya province and can be combined with rafting. When planning your trip, be sure to bring comfortable clothing and footwear, as well as drinking water and sun protection.
  • 30-40 minutes of free time is enough to enjoy the untouched beauty of Turkish nature, take stunning photos, and try the oldest national dish, gözleme – flatbreads with various fillings, and enjoy a cup of strong, delicious tea.

ZIPLINE

  • For lovers of active and extreme recreation, ziplining is a real find.
What is it? Ziplining is an enhanced version of the old-fashioned Tarzan swing. The difference is that the descent is made along a steel cable stretched over the canyon, with a special suspension system attached to the person. The speed depends on the length of the cable and the person's weight.
  • The zipline in Köprülü Canyon is completely safe and is fully controlled by experienced instructors who will help you understand everything, explain safety techniques, and tell you how to behave during the flight.
  • The adrenaline rush and the excitement from the zipline descent in Köprülü Canyon will stay with you for a long time.
